In the apparel market for the month, while luxury brands and other high-end products continued to struggle, the general apparel market performed steadily overall. This was due to strong sales of midsummer products as the intense heat continued throughout the month, in addition to a positive rebound from the temporary negative impact of typhoons in the previous year.
Similarly, we actively introduced full-priced midsummer products as a countermeasure against the extremely hot weather. At the same time, we promoted the final clearance of spring and summer items, resulting in progress significantly exceeding the previous year across all distribution channels.
As a consequence of the above, the monthly total sales of department stores, directly managed stores, outlets, and other brick-and-mortar stores in August reached 110% of the previous year's level, e-commerce sales were 118% of the previous year, and total company sales were 112% of the previous year's level.
In addition, the cumulative total company sales for the first half were 98% of the previous year. Breaking it down by quarters, the first quarter (March-May) was 96% of the previous year, and the second quarter (June-August) was 100% of the previous year's level.
