Monthly Overview (April 2024)

April

In the apparel market for this month, sales of the luxury brands, which was driven by inbound sales under the continuous yen depreciation, remained strong. On the other hand, the general apparel market has been lacking a momentum, compared with the last year's revenge spending after the COVID-19 pandemic.

We also saw a year on year increase in full price sales due to the implementation of measures to attract customers such as brand campaign for the both of brick-and-mortar stores and EC, and the full-fledged start of sales of spring apparel such as spring coats and jackets, which had been delayed in the initial response. However, discounted sales at outlets and EC fell sharply, partly due to a shortage of merchandise, in line with the significant decline in carryover inventories.

The overall result was slightly below the previous year, due in part to a reaction to last year's strong sales growth due to the revenge spending.

As a consequence of the above, monthly sales at department stores, directly managed stores of the full-price for April totaled 101% of the previous year, while sales at outlets and EC accounted for 93% of the previous year, and sales for the entire company 98% of the previous year.
