Monthly Overview (March 2024)

March

The overall apparel market for this month was sluggish due to sluggish sales of spring apparel due to the warm winter through February, which caused temperatures to remain low.

In the first half of the month for us, the start of operations of spring apparel was delayed due to low temperatures. In the second half of the month, however, our sales of spring apparel gradually started in earnest, which had been delayed for the first time due to rising temperatures. In particular, business items such as suits and jackets, as well as items for occasions, began to operate favorably. As a result, sales remained at the same level as the previous year from the middle of the month, and increased year on year in the final week on the month. However, overall monthly sales fell below the previous year's level, partly because of the large slump in the first half of the month, when the low temperature continued, and the rebound from last year, when sales increased substantially from the beginning of the month due to the “revenge” consumption after the collapse of corona.

As a consequence of the above, monthly sales of brick-and-mortar stores such as department stores, directly managed stores and outlet stores saw 97% and EC sales 90% of the last year whereas our total sales were 96% against the previous year in March.
