Clothing Collection Activities

As part of its materiality "Efforts toward a circular economy," Sanyo is working to collect unwanted clothing from customers and reuse and recycle them.

The fashion industry has been pointed out as an industry with a large environmental impact due to the use of resources and energy, and the shortening of life cycles, and has become an international issue. In recent years, efforts to create sustainable fashion that takes environmental impact into account have been expanding.

However, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment(*1) in Japan, 66% of clothes that consumers have given away are incinerated or disposed of in landfills, and the reuse rate is only 19%.

Since 2019, we have been engaged in activities to collect clothing on the premise of recycling. In the new clothing collection activities that started in March 2024, we will not only recycle, but also re-sell them for reuse, with the aim of ensuring that they can be worn for an even longer period of time before being recycled.

In addition, we will continue to recycle feathers through the "Green Down Project" for feather products that have a quality label down rate of 50% or more among the collected products that we do not resell. Compared to incinerating waste, this system can help reduce CO2 and help prevent global warming.

Sanyo's clothing collection activities

We collect clothes made by Sanyo Shokai that are no longer worn.

Under our 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) program, "SANYO RE: PROJECT," we have started a new clothing collection program based on the premise of reuse.

Clothing and some miscellaneous goods manufactured by Sanyo will be collected at the affected stores. For each item we collect, we offer 500 Sanyo Membership Points, which can be used at our directly managed stores and at the Sanyo Shokai brand stores throughout the country.

Green Down Project

Green Down Project

As a member of the "Green Down Project", Sanyo Shokai collects down products at some of its stores in order to contribute to the realization of a "feather recycling cycle society".

Flow of clothing taken over

We are engaged in clothing collection activities to contribute to the realization of a recycling-oriented society based on the production of high-quality products that can be used for a long time.

Most of the clothing used by customers is incinerated when it is no longer worn. We take back the clothing and sundries that our customers no longer use at our stores, and reuse and recycle them as much as possible.

Reusable items will be resold to new customers at some of our company-operated stores.

Of the collected items that we do not resell, we will recycle feathers through the "Green Down Project" for feather products that have a quality label down rate of 50% or more. Others are reused and recycled (materials for textile products, solid fuel, etc.) through business partners.
