A scene from a clothing education class

This time, we held a clothing education class focusing on "working," "from cotton to clothing," and "what is upcycling?" (fostering the spirit of using things with care for a long time).

After explaining about the company, the process of making clothes, and what upcycling is, everyone made "coasters" using our leftover cloth.

From cotton to clothes.Children are interested. They looked at the tags on their clothes to see what the garments were made of. There are two types of cotton: Western cotton and Japanese cotton. They learned about the characteristics of each cotton and how to turn cotton into yarn.

The children made many discoveries, such as "I knew about designers, but I had never heard of pattern makers before" and "I didn't know that so many people were involved in making a single piece of clothing.

In the workshop, the children made coasters from a variety of leftover fabrics that they liked.

Coasters made by children from a variety of leftover fabrics. There were many children who made many of them, saying, "I want to make them for my family.

※Since 2024, All public elementary and junior high schools in Shibuya Ward have been offering a curriculum called "Shibuya Future Studies," which focuses on afternoon class hours from Monday to Friday.
Using the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "special school hours system," the program aims to increase the number of hours spent on comprehensive study from 70 hours per year to about 150 hours.
At Rinsen Elementary School, They learn about environmental issues, connections with local communities, and the promotion of SDGs through their regular efforts with companies and classes.

This is a clothing education class for children, who will be the leaders of the future, with the aim of experiencing the joy of manufacturing and fostering a spirit of wearing clothes with care for a long time.
I hope that they will use what they have learned in class in their daily lives and cherish things.
