2024 Clothing Education Class

October 31, 2024Local contribution

On Saturday, July 27, we held a Clothing Education Class at Eco Gallery Shinjuku (Shinjuku Ward Environmental Learning Information Center) in Shinjuku Central Park.

Since 2014, we have been holding clothing education classes for elementary schools in Tokyo with the aim of experiencing the joy of manufacturing and fostering a spirit of wearing clothes with care for a long time.
We have been holding Clothing Education Classes at Eco Gallery Shinjuku since 2017 as an initiative in Shinjuku City, where our head office is located. This event is held as part of the program of the Children's Eco Plaza Shinjuku, a children's eco club run by Eco Gallery Shinjuku, where elementary school students who are interested in the environment gather beyond the boundaries of school and grade.

A scene from a Clothing Education Class

An employee from the Human Resources Department and three sales employees in their second year as new graduates acted as teachers, explaining the process of making clothes and the upcycle, and then held a workshop to make "coasters" using our remnants. Twenty-seven elementary school students from grades 1 to 6 in Shinjuku City participated in the event.

The "coasters made from leftover cloth" made in the workshop had many innovative designs, and some of them cheerfully said, "I'm giving them to my mother as gifts!" while others came to get additional materials to make for their siblings.

This is a Clothing Education Class for children, who will be the leaders of the future, with the aim of experiencing the joy of manufacturing and fostering a spirit of wearing clothes with care for a long time. I hope that they will be able to use what they have learned in class in their daily lives and work on taking care of things.
