~ Aiming to realize a reuse business as a sustainable business ~
As part of its materiality "Efforts toward a circular economy" Sanyo has decided to use "SANYO RE: PROJECT" as the generic name for its 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activities, and plans to start and gradually expand the collection of clothing based on reuse at all directly managed stores and some branded stores in department stores on March 28.
Through this, we aim to realize the reuse business as a sustainable business.
~ Fashion industry and environmental impact ~
The fashion industry has been pointed out as an industry with a large environmental impact due to the use of resources and energy, and the shortening of life cycles, and has become an international issue. In recent years, efforts to create sustainable fashion that takes environmental impact into account have been expanding.
However, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment(*1) in Japan, 66% of clothing that consumers have given away is incinerated or disposed of in landfills, and the reuse rate is only 19%.
According to Recycle Newsletter, a specialist magazine in the reuse market, Japan's reuse market was worth approximately 3 trillion yen in 2022, continuing to expand for 13 consecutive years since 2009.

~ Sanyo's "Efforts toward a circular economy" and past clothing collection activities ~
Sanyo has identified and announced in March 2023 as one of the four Materiality "Efforts toward a circular economy" as a key issue that it should tackle. In this context, we aim to contribute to the realization of a "Resource Recycling-Oriented Society" by efficiently utilizing limited resources and recycling resources in a sustainable manner.
As part of this materiality initiative, we have recently decided to start a clothing collection activity, which is premised on reuse on Thursday, March 28, at directly managed stores and at branded stores in some department stores, using the collective name of our 3R activities as "SANYO RE: PROJECT."
In the clothing collection activities that we have been conducting since 2019, we have been recycling collected clothes and recycling them into raw materials for new clothes and automobile interior materials. However, with the new clothing collection that we are starting this time, we will reuse the collected clothes as much as possible, including resale, in order to make them last longer before they are recycled.
Through this, we aim to realize the reuse business as a sustainable business.
Sanyo will collect clothing and general merchandise that customers no longer need at the stores of our brand on Thursday, March 28, 2024, on the assumption that customers will reuse clothing for a long time.

In addition, of the collected items that we do not resell, we will recycle feathers through the "Green Down Project" for feather products that have a quality label down rate of 50% or more.
